E, como já todos antecipávamos desde o dia em que se iniciaram as filmagens, Revolutionary Road perfila-se como um dos mais sérios candidatos aos Oscar deste ano. Por enquanto, ainda nenhum título descolou em definitivo do pelotão. Com os aplausos desta semana a The Curious Case of Benjamin Button e Milk, que assim se juntam a The Dark Knight, The Wrestler e Slumdog Millionaire, e com algumas obras de peso ainda por estrear, é difícil perceber as possibilidades do drama realizado por Sam Mendes. Seja de que maneira for, superlativos como estes nunca são de descurar.

Sasha Stone, Awards Daily – “You probably won’t find two better performances this year than those of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road, and with the likes of Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt’s extraordinary turn this year as Benjamin Button, that is saying quite a lot - but the reason for this is that the two together are like fire and gasoline. Old friends who trust each other seem to have no barriers. (…) That makes Revolutionary Road a tough film to connect with; we’re not to admire these people so much as to pity them. And maybe pity those weak aspects of our character. What we throw away every day is exactly what matters most in the end. It’s rough going, to be sure, but it is as beautiful as it is hard to watch. It has the techs nailed down - Roger Deakins’ breathtaking cinematography, the costumes, the art direction, the score, none of which upstage the story or the acting”.

Sam Mendes' best film yet is exquisitely cut, blended and calibrated with superb music by Thomas Newman and legendary performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Michael Shannon. It's the strongest heavyweight drama I've seen all year so far -- much more searing and moving than I expected”.
